Today was a great day. It started for me by attending Austin's award ceremony at school. He received the award of "Fruit of the Spirit - Joy". His teacher explained to everyone how he was always happy no matter what was going on. She, of course, does not know of our affinity for "Joy" so obviously Austin was ecstatic with receiving that award. For those of you who don't know, Roy's moms name was Joy.
Yesterday the LCU Softball team won the NAIA Softball World Series (where Roy has been). So, around 11:30 this morning they landed at the airport. It happened to be a really slow day due to the upcoming holiday which enabled me to be able to meander down the hall to be a part of their welcoming party. They had a bus waiting with a motorcade escort (four motorcycled police in the front of the bus and two in the back) back to the university. Once they arrived back at the university they had a HUGE welcome home party in the middle of campus. Roy was originally on a flight tomorrow but was able to move it up to today. He landed about an hour after the team. He was concerned he would miss the celebration but he soon realized that not only were the athletic director and sports information director on his flight but Roy was also left in charge of getting the trophy home (the "other" airline restricted the team on their amount of baggage so Roy and Andy had to carry some of their equipment, etc for them). Needless to say, when he did land he was in a huge hurry to get back to campus so the trophy could be included in celebration photos. This of course left me to collect their bags... good thing I know a few sky caps :-). They missed the mayors speech but were able to be there for the ending. Anyway, Roy had a really great time and we are all really glad to have him back home.
