Today we spent the day at Epcot. Today is the first day of the annual Flower and Garden Festival. The whole park is covered with flowers and character topiaries. This is one of my favorite parks because it is more educational and beautiful. It has the World Showcase which is different sections of the park that represent a country. You can visit Mexico and France within a few minutes. Each section has architecture like the country would have, restaurants that serve native food, etc. Each country also has a show about the history, etc of that country.
We found ourselves with about an hour to kill before our dinner reservation at the Coral Reef. We happened on an amphitheater where a band was going to be performing within the next 15 minutes. The name of the band was the Guess Who. We were unfamiliar with them, but decided to take a load off and relax. We sat towards the back so we could get up and leave if it was terrible. The usher came by and asked us which Guess Who song was our favorite... we were surprised by the question (assuming no one else knew who they were too) - we explained to the young man that we had never heard of the band. Feeling very sorry for this idiotic family, he moved us down to the second row that was roped off for VIP guests only and instructed us to have a favorite song before we left. So, realizing very quickly that we are supposed to know this band, we began searching on our phone for "Guess Who" while we were sitting there waiting. All we could pull up was that they were big in the early 70's but that their Greatest Hits CD was released in '99. They came out and as soon as they started playing we realized we had heard their music. They are responsible for "American Woman" and "These Eyes" to name a couple that I immediately recognized. We ended up having a great time!
Our dinner reservation, as I mentioned, was at the Coral Reef. It is a restaurant that has one wall that is entirely a fish tank. Our table was right next to the tank. One of the pictures in the link below is of a little fish next to a star fish. We sat and watched them all night - I just had to take a picture. It was a beautiful friendship! The little fish never got more than 3 feet or so away from the star fish; most of the time he hovered over or right next to him.
Following dinner we went to the fireworks show, "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth" - another marvelous show! This time in between fireworks being shot off there was an enormous globe all lit up out in the middle of the lake that showed clips from different cultures on it. The globe movements and lighting and fireworks were all set to music (which all Disney fireworks are). At the end the globe opened up and fireworks were shot out of the middle of it. Very beautiful!
